RCD & Smoke Alarm Compliance — Ellenbrook

Selling, renting, or just want your place compliant? I install and test RCDs and smoke alarms to WA requirements, with written certification.

RCD / Safety Switch Compliance

WA requires RCDs (residual current devices) to protect power and lighting circuits. I test existing RCDs and install new ones where needed.

  • RCD testing and certification
  • New RCD installation
  • Switchboard upgrades for RCD compliance
  • Rental property compliance checks
  • Written compliance reports

Smoke Alarm Compliance

WA smoke alarm laws require interconnected mains-powered alarms in specific locations. I install, test, and certify compliant setups.

  • Mains-powered smoke alarm installation
  • Interconnected alarm systems
  • Hardwired with battery backup
  • Photoelectric sensors (WA compliant)
  • Testing and certification

Common Compliance Jobs

Most of my compliance work is for landlords getting rentals ready, or homeowners selling and needing everything up to code before settlement.

RCD testing for rental compliance
New RCD installation in older homes
Smoke alarm upgrades for selling
Rental property compliance packs
Insurance requirement sign-off
Post-renovation compliance checks
Switchboard-mounted RCD installation
Interconnected smoke alarm systems

Ellenbrook Homes

Newer Ellenbrook homes usually have RCDs already, but I often find the smoke alarms are battery-only or not properly interconnected. That's a common fix I do before settlement or rental handover.

Older homes in The Vines or Upper Swan often need both RCD upgrades and full smoke alarm replacement to meet current WA requirements.

RCD & Smoke Alarm FAQs

What are the WA RCD requirements?

In WA, all power point circuits and lighting circuits must be protected by RCDs. Older homes often only have power points protected — if your lights aren't on an RCD, you're not fully compliant.

What smoke alarms do I need in WA?

WA requires mains-powered, interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms. You need one in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every level of the home. Battery-only alarms don't meet the requirement for most situations.

How often should RCDs be tested?

RCDs should be push-button tested every 3 months by the homeowner. Professional testing with a calibrated tester is recommended every 2 years, or as required for rental compliance.
